Construction breaks ground on Barnsdall Monument Sign

On January 6th at noon, a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held to celebrate the commencement of construction of the new sign at the entrance to Barnsdall Park. In addition to members of the community, City Councilmembers Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge were in attendance, as well as Co-President Jack Wiant of the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation, and Nyla Arslanian, President of the Hollywood Arts Council and VP of Advocacy for the Foundation.

This beautiful and iconic structure will reside at the foot of the Hill fronting Hollywood Boulevard to create greater visibility and integration with the surrounding neighborhood. The planning and fundraising for the sign project has been eight years in the making, and an important capital project for the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation. The sign project is a powerful example of the Foundation’s commitment to the park and its desire to help the City keep it a vibrant, viable, and integral part of our community.

We would like to thank architect and Foundation board member James Heaton III for all his efforts to bring the sign project to this stage. Without his hard volunteer work, it would not have been possible.
