GRANTS

Donations to the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation have supported transformative projects including:

landscape & infrastructure

  • The Barnsdall Olive Grove Initiative, a partnership with the Los Angeles Parks Foundation and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to revitalize the park's historic landscape established in the 1890s.

  • The maintenance of Hollyhock House’s historic landscape, including its water features.

  • The renovation of the historic Motor Court Garage into the new Hollyhock House Visitor Center. 

  • The Historic Structures Report for the Hollyhock House Motor Court.

  • The design and fabrication of the distinctive Hollywood Boulevard entrance sign, which enhances the Park’s visibility and encourages new visitors to explore the site.

  • A new tubular steel fence and two gates around the exposed perimeter of the Park to better secure the property.


Hollyhock House

  • The installation of mahogany countertops in the Hollyhock House kitchen, which restored the room to its 1946 appearance and allows for the interpretation of Lloyd Wright's renovation and restoration work at the house in a space that could not be brought back to its original 1921 configuration.

  • The acquisition of early 20th-century decorative arts elements that enhance the interpretation of Hollyhock House to Aline Barnsdall's period of ownership, including a Peking glass bowl on display in the dining room, a large Venini bowl designed by Napoleone Martinuzzi, and two Vinini Veronese vases.

  • The upholstery of two reproduction dining room chairs for a forthcoming interpretive installation in the Hollyhock House Visitor Center.

  • Docent volunteer appreciation events that build morale and a sense of community.

  • Curatorial research trips to the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives at the Avery Architectural Library, Columbia University.

Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery

  • Commissioned art installations

  • Exhibition development research

  • Public education programs 

  • The renovation of the Gallery Lobby

  • The production of exhibition display furniture

  • Public exhibition opening receptions

Barnsdall Gallery Theatre

  • The purchase of a new stage curtain

  • The purchase of high-definition projectors

  • The purchase of an enhanced sound system

Barnsdall Art Center & Junior Arts Center

  • The purchase of state-of-the-art ceramic kilns

  • The purchase of classroom computer equipment

  • The purchase of a new classroom piano

  • The purchase of a new jewelry press 

PR AND SOCIAL MEDIA

  • The Barnsdall Art Park Foundation funds the professional services of Public Relations and Social Media consultants who work to highlight and promote all of the Park’s cultural initiatives and public programs.

  • Hundreds of domestic and international features dedicated to the Park’s historic resources and community activities have appeared in notable media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Financial Times, Los Feliz Ledger, ArtNews, Artforum, Hyperallergic, Flaunt, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Thrillist, Time Out LA, Curbed, Wallpaper Guides, KCRW, PBS SOCAL, and KTLA.
