MISSION

The mission of the BARNSDALL ART PARK FOUNDATION is to ensure that Barnsdall Art Park is a vibrant, inclusive space for creativity, cultural expression, civic conversation, and social empowerment.

Barnsdall Art Park’s facilities, including Hollyhock House, California’s first modern architectural cultural property listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are owned by the City of Los Angeles, operated by the Department of Cultural Affairs, and maintained by the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Department of General Services.

The Barnsdall Art Park Foundation was established in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in support of the City of Los Angeles’s comprehensive landscape, infrastructure, and program initiatives.

The Foundation has three main platforms:

ADVANCEMENT of Aline Barnsdall’s mission to inspire the creation and dynamic exchange of all forms of artistic expression.

ACTIVATION of Barnsdall Art Park’s vibrant cultural programs, inclusive community forums, and distinctive UNESCO World Heritage Site structures and gardens designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his son, Lloyd Wright.

ENGAGEMENT of Barnsdall Art Park’s local and global network of diverse artists, educators, students, and visitors.

The Foundation’s philanthropic endeavors are devoted to three primary objectives:

IMPACT: Funding provided by the Foundation enhances the research, production, and presentation of forward-thinking exhibitions, performances, and public programs throughout Barnsdall Art Park.

INTEGRITY: The Foundation’s fundraising initiatives and program support grants are directed towards Barnsdall Art Park’s architectural conservation and historic landscape projects, decorative arts acquisitions, and essential equipment and facility upgrades.

OUTREACH: The Foundation’s dedicated Public Relations and Social Media team ensures that Los Angeles-area residents and diverse international audiences are connected to Barnsdall Art Park’s popular ongoing activities and informed of its exciting milestones.
